Thank you Jim for that info. That is really interesting. I'm trying to replicate the train that is on the top of our forum. Have the cars and the caboose. This condenses all that I love about C&S. Small rails, little engines and big country. The engines would be No 8 and 69 in On3. I have not seen either one of them offered in a number of years. I'll keep up my hope that maybe one day...

Keep looking, Christian. As Keith Hayes posted, patience sometimes pays off.

I've gone as long as 3 years until something C&S brass turned up that I wanted, felt I could use. I'll keep looking for you as well.

The No 5 sold for 699.90. The bid was added one second before the end of the auction

That's a good price for a tough to find piece of On3 C&S brass in todays market.

For what it's worth, I just sold an Overland Sn3 C&S #22, unpainted on eBay. When it was all said and done, eBay tagged me for 13.5% in fees. This might explain the high prices we have been seeing lately.

Commission fees are getting high everywhere.

PBL now has a 25% commission fee, and they only resell their models imported in the past, no Overland C&S.

Last time that I inquired, BrassTrains was charging something like 22-23% commission.

Ebay listings generally have higher shipping and handling charges now--don't know if this reflects true increases in shipping costs or a way to offset some of the higher commission fee.

eBay is charging 12.55% on the shipping fee as well as 12.55% of the sales tax they charge the buyer and which the seller never sees.  The only way for the seller to offset this is to raise the shipping cost substantially.  That may very well be why we are seeing a dearth of good HOn3 brass locomotives online this year.

I would suggest that all of us try to sell any surplus C&S brass by first listing it on Darel's "Swap Meet" sticky (above) before listing things on eBay.

That would tend to keep things "in the family" so to speak, among the members of this forum. One would have to decide what an individual brass model's value is to them (i.e. original purchase price, current estimated market value, etc.) before posting and be satisfied if the model sells at that price. Granted with the inflation of brass prices, almost mimicking the real estate market, one might get more for the model on eBay even considering the eBay fees.

I would find greater satisfaction knowing that one of my acquisitions has found a good home in this fraternity, even if it yields a lower price at sale . . .

With Covid coming back for a repeat engagement, I'm not sure who or how many might be attending the Sn3 Symposium in Albuquerque next week or the national Narrow Gauge Convention in Hickory, North Carolina, the first week of September.

Perhaps those that do could keep an eye out in the Vendor's Rooms, at the two conventions, for C&S brass in HOn3, Sn3 and On3. Assuming that the Forum is still up and running, perhaps you could post a notice to the rest of us on the forum, allowing us to contact the vendor directly.

For myself, I'm still looking for another Overland Sn3 C&S number 69, preferably unpainted.

And I think Christian is looking for On3 Overland C&S number 8 and On3 Precision Scale C&S number 69 for his "Alma Train".

Should I create another thread "C&S brass at the Conventions"?

**Price Reduction**

Recall the C&S Brass Whistle Todd pointed out, well after a number of auctions with no bids, it's now down to the bargain price of $929.00!

The whistle seems to have  a "2" stamped on the arm. So this may have been the whistle from Brooks 2-6-0 #2. My dad had three C&S whistles and they were all stamped with the locomotive numbers. #5506(#807), #903, and #914.

#74's whistle is stamped #67.

For what it's worth.
