Strange isn't it -- why does smaller always seem to cost more?
The HOn3 Key B-4-D's are almost always priced $150.00-$200.00 more than the Overland Sn3 versions. A much better mass/dollar ratio in S scale.

I have a friend who has an Sn3 OMI #60 for sale. It's from her late husband's collection and is new in the box. She's asking $400.00, plus postage. She also has a lot of standard gauge S scale brass!
Any interest and I will forward her info. Ned |
I’m interested. I’ll send a DM.

There is an On3 OMI 71 on Ebay.

Listed on eBay is an Overland Sn3 C&S caboose number 1002, the one with the center cupola:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/OVERLAND-MODELS-INC-C-S-WOOD-CABOOSE-1002-OMI-1699-SN3-GAUGE-S-SCALE-BRASS/143139983914?hash=item2153ced22a:g:Bf8AAOSwpZpcbIy~:rk:82:pf:0 Only 25 were built in 1986, it is one of the rarer of the Sn3 cabooses. Also listed is an Overland C&S 2-6-0 number 9: https://www.ebay.com/itm/OVERLAND-MODELS-INC-C-S-2-6-0-9-Sn3-SCALE-OMI-1700-BRASS-STEAM-TRAIN-LOCOMOTIVE/333081375781?hash=item4d8d327425:g:6VoAAOSw6lpcazCa:rk:5:pf:1 Note that this is the first Overland run (1985) of C&S number 9 -- the detailing is cruder than the second run (1990) Cooke 2-6-0's, the Ridgeway spark arrestor is not hinged. This model tended to be a fast runner, would likely need to be re-motored / re-geared to run as nicely as the second run locomotives.

For those of you that might be interested in Sn3 modeling of the C&S, you should consider the factory painted C&S Overland 2-6-0's (second run) offered by Southwest Narrow Gauge. C&S Cooke locomotives numbers 6 and 8 (1930's), as well as C&S Brooks locomotives 21 and 22 (1920's) are available factory painted, no weathering or weathered. They are all priced at $617.00 each, a very reasonable price when Overland C&S locomotives usually go for about $500.00 unpainted.
https://southwest-narrow-gauge.myshopify.com/products/sn3-overland-models-c-s-2-6-0 If one only wanted to model a small C&S terminal, numbers 21 and 22 would be perfect for either Morrison or Central City in the early 1920's. The C&S 21 will have a "Como" spark arrestor c1918 and look like this Otto Perry view: The Overland version of number 22 will have a Ridgeway stack and an intermediate tender, and look like this view in Morrison: The backstory about these "factory painted" models is that Tom Marsh of Overland grossly overestimated the Sn3 market for C&S stuff and imported significant numbers of locomotives, passenger cars and cabooses between 1985-1990. This was at the height of Harry Brunk's "Up Clear Creek" popularity. Consequently he had C&S inventory sitting on shelves for years. To try to finally move his imported Sn3 models, Marsh had a number of 2-6-0 locomotives, cabooses and a few passenger cars professionally painted and detailed. I don't know if the mechanisms were tweaked as well. You know, Keith, now that you have two RPO's, a second 2-6-0 passenger locomotive to keep your number 9 company might be in order -- that C&S 6 or 8 might work fine.

Jim, I have had my eye on a painted 6 or 8 for some time.
For now I will go without as I opted to attend the upcoming Sn3 Symposium in Seattle instead. Maybe next year. Thanks for the story about how these models came to be. I suspect it would not be much work to convert them to DCC and put a sound system in them. If only I could get 7th Street Shops to drill out the markers so those can operate too? FYI, I just surveyed eBay and there is a fair amount of Sn3 brass there, including a 1002.

Seth- I finally got a response. I'm sorry but it seems that I made a mistake- she's asking $600 for it. I'm terribly sorry! In the rush and fuss at the Springfield meet I must have misread it. Apologies. If you're still interested in it you can contact her at photogirl1947 at hotmail dot com. Her name is Delores (yes, with an e). If not.....
Again humble apologies. Ned |
No worries, Ned! I’ll think it over and ping her if I decide I’m interested at that price. :-) On Sat, Mar 9, 2019 at 9:26 AM nedsn3 [via C&Sng Discussion Forum] <[hidden email]> wrote: Seth- I finally got a response. Nice heads up, Jeff, but someone's already purchased them!
There is a very nice On3 model of C&S 71 listed on eBay, however: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Colorado-Southern-71-unpainted-OMI-On3-scale/303095301294?hash=item4691e344ae:g:jh8AAOSwC45cETW7

Wow, they didn't last long.
That On3 is a real beauty. Must tell myself I need to start collecting On3 like I need a hole in the head.... |
But one can never have too many trains, especially if they are C&S!!

Speaking of On3 Overland C&S number 71, here is one that is painted and weathered:

I got in contact with the seller and asked him if he had more On3 C&S Models for sale. He had a painted and an unpainted 71 for sale. Unfortunately there is nothing else.
