Re: DSP&P/CC/UPD&G/DL&G/C&S "Timeline"

I just checked for crankpin screws and springs. I don't see any springs, but I don't think it will be hard to find springs that can be adapted. There are crankpin screws, but it seems to be two short - there are two long screws for the driver where the main rod connects, and four shorter screws. I'm not going to worry too much about that until (or if) I get up to assembling it. I have some excess crankpin screws from other projects, and have adapted similar screws before using small machine screws and machined sleeves. The Overland On3 bogies (or at least some of them) had a shouldered kingpin screw for the bogie truck, and the shoulder was too short, so if you tightened it the bogie wouldn't pivot, and if you backed it off so the bogie could swivel it would work it way loose and fall onto the track (and putting it back in required major disassembly because an axel was in the way). I found a screw with the correct diameter and thread pitch that was long enough, and machined a sleeve with the flange which I soldered onto the screw. It was a bit bigger than a crankpin screw, but similar application.

There ya go. Adapt and overcome! Good luck. I might be able to come up with some parts.

Wow! that brought back memories. I did my On3 phase back in the 1970s. I had just finished a Kemtron C-16 and this PSC #60 kit showed up at Caboose Hobbies in, I think, 1978. It was just under $500 then and I thought is was much better detailed than the Kemtron kit so I got it. I put some detail on the boiler; air tanks, assembled the cab, did a very little on the frame.  I note that the cab-top hose can is square rather than round.

Then a change of work, city, etc got in the way and the On3 stuff started to take a back burner to building up my HOn3 for which I had some space. The PSC kit has sat on the shelf since then. (notes of "My Grandfather's clock" seem to play in the background.) I was fairly careful, and although some parts bags were opened to explore, I think all the original stuff is there but after this much time I can't really tell. The frame and motor come assembled needing just some details. I used both a small torch and a resistance soldering unit for the bit I did. Do I want to dive back into it? I still have a small fleet of HOn3 brass that need Faulhaber motors and Soundtrax DCC and I do have track on which to run them. Hmm.

Since it was mentioned that this wasn't well known, I pulled it down and took a few pictures.

Anyone want to complete it? Wonder what it's worth on eBay?

Thank you all for the info. The kit went for 400$. I‘m always surprised about what has been produced over time. A C&S 60 kit, who would have thought.
I‘m currently working on a Ferro Suisse Om Krokodile brass kit. Released 1983. Pleasure to build. Just 30 Min per day before going to work. Keeps me sane.

Have a great weekend everyone
