Re: Jefferson progress report

Jeff Young
Clamping up the walls (note the clever positioning of the clamp to hide any detail that may -- or may not -- be on the door):

The walls standing:

Wait a minute, what's that on the door?

(I'd like to say it was carved styrene.  But at this scale, "bludgeoned with a scalpel" would be more accurate.)

Cheers,
Jeff.

Jeff,

what a beauty!  The whole thing is an inspiration.  I never would have thought such a realistic log cabin would be possible.

Thanks,
John

Well done.
I think the door looks just fine. More detail then the average door.

Re: Jefferson progress report

Jeff Young
I finally replaced my "gone walkabout" SD card, so here are some photos of the Almgren Bros. sawmill in Jefferson.  (The real one was several miles up Jefferson Creek, and un-photographed as far as I know, so I'm taking a bit of "modeller's prerogative" here.)

I stopped short of finishing the roof to switch gears to Kokomo.  The roof will either be un-protected board and batten or tarpaper.  Not sure which yet.  The structure is scratch built (including the windows and door).  The machinery is from the KMP sawmill kit.

Cheers,
Jeff.

Jeff,

absolutely wonderful!   A real masterpiece, your Jefferson is.

I do feel sorry for the schoolteacher trying to be heard in the classroom when they're feeding logs into the big ripsaw.
I bet she's secretly hoping that embers from that boiler stack will burn the lumberyard down.

Cheers,
John

Jeff you have captured the essence and spirit of Jefferson in model form. Your work is outstanding
Can you share the same photos in sepia tones. I think the effect would be remarkable.

Hi Jeff,

Last September my wife and I pulled off 285 in Jefferson to look for the log cabin and school house.
Your models are perfect.  You have nailed it.  If I could find some of the model logs that you used,
I would try to build an equivalent cabin for Chalk Creek.  Your modeling of Jefferson is very effective.

Cheers,
Randy

I'm not sure I have the sepia tones right, but it does look pretty cool.
