From this morning:

The snowpack for the Arkansas River basin was just below average this year. It sure is melting fast now.

What is all the low, gray ground cover? Is it sage brush? Will it green up this summer?

No, those are just willows that haven't leafed out yet. It's been kind of a long cool spring up here.

Thanks for the photo. I haven't yet explored the upper reaches of the LC&S, but definitely will on a future trip.

They plowed it open a week or two ago. They have run a couple of special trains up to that point for the past few summers, BBQ trains and such.

Thanks, Matt. It's encouraging to see more of that line back in operation. My wife and I rode in 2011 and we only went about a quarter mile past French Gulch Tank.
