DPL Photo http://digital.denverlibrary.org/   call number not recorded
EDIT:  DPL-Z-3367

EDIT:
I have/had seen references to this area as Chalk Ranch, on the East Fork of the Arkansas R. in various Leadville Mining District writings.

A little further down the Arkansas River drainage was Rainbow Falls, Jim has already posted a picture of the Snow fighting train headed upgrade at this location, that is confirmed by this view posted by Todd Hackett on the NGDF in where he asked for the location. http://ngdiscussion.net/phorum/read.php?1,290123,290123

EDIT:
Between the Rainbow Falls trestle and the Delmonica Gulch trestle was the site of Brook's Spur.

Great illustrations, Chris.

I take it the trestle at Rainbow Falls was located just south of MP 285 on Jimmy's map, correct?

And Keith, Chris aint gonna let this go until you add those extra stringers to your new trestle.

Chris,

As Jimmy's D&RG map train picked up speed after we left Kokomo, we overlooked Robinson!

As I'm stuck in the hospital today, without access to my image library at home, could you post a few photos of that location?

I guess that's one of those names that gets a lot of use, like Trout Creek or Windy Point. I was at Rainbow Falls recently, but it was nowhere near Leadville.

Done, added to my last post on pg 5.  http://c-sng-discussion-forum.41377.n7.nabble.com/Ten-Mile-Stations-of-the-D-RG-tp6164p6353.html

ps If you go back here http://c-sng-discussion-forum.41377.n7.nabble.com/Kokomo-tp1652p2186.html you will see the C&S Water Tank at Solitude.

And I'd like to thank Jimmy for posting such wonderful maps of this often overlooked line.

Thanks, Chris, exactly the images I had in mine.

And I would remind everyone that many photos of Climax were posted on Jimmy's original thread, when he first posted his D&RG map of Fremont Pass / Climax:  http://c-sng-discussion-forum.41377.n7.nabble.com/Fremont-Pass-Facilities-Again-td2712.html#a2732

And I, too, would like to congratulate Jimmy on what I consider to be a perfect thread, everything I had hoped for from this forum on this topic. In just 15 days, more information as maps, photos and text have been organized here, about the D&RGs Blue River branch line, than in any published book. Ever. PERIOD!

Now, Jimmy, having heaped compliments on you and your map collection . . . I was wondering: Do you have any D&RG maps showing the narrow gauge facilities at Leadville over the years, and the Ibex branch?  If so, would you consider sharing them, perhaps on a new thread?

The one posted is dated 1904 and it does not appear I have one with a later date.

Yes.  I have one dated 1883 that I absolutely love.  However, it is on canvass measuring 4' 9" wide X 6' long, so I would not be able to scan that one.
I will do a review and see if I can come with a couple for posting.

And thanks to all for the kind comments.

There is this fantastic Map of early railroad Leadville and does have good detail but is more a R-O-W map of the D&RG.

Like I said, it's one of those names that probably gets used a lot. I didn't know about the Rainbow Falls in Kerikeri, and the closest I got to them was Tutukaka. Continuing to Kerikeri would probably have added two hours of driving to an already very long day. I had to leave St Heliers by 5:00 am to be on the boat in Tutukaka by 8:00 am, and didn't get back until well after dark. The one in Hilo was only a few minutes out of my way, and while it was another really long day I had extra time in the morning because the trail to the flowing lava didn't open until around 3:30 pm (see my video).

Chris.
Where is this "3 Mile Tank" located?
There is a water tank on the layout we obtained. I did not build it. But had always wondered if it, or the area it is in was modeled after a C&S photo. This photo you posted looks a lot like what I have. Same type of tank (I think), same curve in the track, same scenery.
I will post pictures of it in the next few days in my "Not Como Nevada" thread.
HOn3 is the path I have chosen.

Como, 3 miles out from Leadville.  There also was an 8-Mile Tank but whether that was another name for the French Gulch Tank, I have not yet investigated.
