Absolutely amazing. When I saw it a few years ago I knew it was undergoing restoration, but wasn't expecting such a beautiful job.

Congratulations to all involved.

John, thanks for posting a photo of my favorite Colorado building-the A.S. Turner General Store in Garo.According to Virginia McConnell Simmons' BAYOU SALADO it used to belong  to Chubb Newitt, and was hauled over from Divide/Newitt on flatcars.
The blue building is not the second Fairplay/Garo station.I believe that it is a replica of the Jefferson depot that used to be located at an RV park  down on 285 close to where the South Park grade nears the highway down by the Salt Works.Fairplay's second depot was rebuilt into a house. There is a picture of it on a website about surviving. South Park depots. There is a picture of the depot when it was at Garo on the PARK COUNTY ARCHIVES photo site. There has been material and photos about Fairplay and the 2 depots in issues of BOGIES AND THE LOOP.The DSP&P Historical Society has a CD available with all back issues on it.

Bob Schoppe would be the guy to ask regarding info on Fairplay and surrounding locations.

The "now" photo of the Fairplay depot is in the FILES section of  the DSP-P Yahoo group.

I dare say the depot looks better now than it ever looked in the day--save shortly after construction.

Re: The Depot Fairplay Stole from Garos, Garo - September 22, 2012

I have a photo on my computer I purloined off the web of the last eastbound passenger train arriving in Como from Leadville. I think it is either a Jackson or a Kindig shot, and looks straight down the track at the locomotive. A trainman is walking towards the camera--head down. He is probably just watching his step, but there is a look of surrender: all done. Otto Perry's car is on the left. I would post the pic, but don't know who it belongs to, and DPL does not have a similar image on line.

What is interesting is that I have seen a number of images of this scene, all from different vantage points, and during different points of time at the station stop.  One can almost piece together the choreograpy of when the train got in, when Otto pulled up in his Ford, who was standing on the Leadville end and so forth.

Also, there are so many great details of Como at the end, like the garage on the east side of the depot with a car in it and the doors open.

Como.

Oh, and for those of you who are interested, I was down at Western History in December and saw some nice railroad pics on display at the desk.

Turns out these were some samples from the Kindig collection which was bequeathed to DPL.

I heard Dick did not fancy himself much of a photographer, but Beebe and Clegg among others thought otherwise.

Good news is the photos and negs have found a safe home; the bad news is I don't see the money coming anytime soon to get what is a great collection digitized. If you want to contact DPL and show your support, send them a note.

Just don't tell them I sent you.

So did / do I. Dick was an exceptional photographer - and very modist! Contributed greatly to my collection of photos.
