Thanks, Chris. I am not seeing the tie rods. I did a little work to bring some light to the subject and all I am seeing is wood.

Please don't be mysterious.

Sorry Keith, I'll scratch that observation, as the rightside  "tie rod" is just another scratch terminating at a N-B-W grrr.  I guess I've been looking at too many Headframe and Shaft images and saw something that may exist in the form of added later tierod; quite convincing at first glance; I do believe I have entered the realm of the geeezer.

When I downloaded the image and adjusted the brightness and contrast,  I was surprised at the number of scratches. The image posted by DPL has nice white whites and black blacks: Ansel Adams would be proud.

The frame is about half complete and is just over a foot long. I will cut the mud sills into the foam to level everything out and snuggle the shed into the scenery some. The 40' refer is a test as it is among my longest cars at the moment.

While a bunch of you have been meeting in St. Louis,  I have been hunkered down with wood, glue, a razor saw and knife working on the snowshed.

The frame is done. Now for the slow process of sheathing.

I also have been advancing some other projects, like getting benchwork in place for the staging return loop below Kokomo, and lighting above the helix. Next up, more valence!

Re: C&S Snowshed Folio

Now that you mention it, my iron is stored below Kokomo.

I am getting faster at cutting and fitting boards, but it is still a slow process. We are up above the cab now. I find the battens go quickly, and need to stain more material.

Keen eyes will notice that I am using a lighter stain as I inch towards the top. I figured these lower boards would be in the snow  longer and thus stay wet. The upper boards would be in the sun and bleach out in the UV. The B&B gang has visited and replaced some boards and battens.

Saturday found me in Greeley at the RPM. I took a couple of models,  which were among only a handful of narrow gauge models.

I was surprised to see multiple Utah Belt and Virginian & Ohio models. Interesting both at how influential these modelers were in our hobby, and also at how effective they were at creating a plausible proto-freelance railroad image.

Whew!

All the side boards are on. Now to stain and apply the batters. Then on to the roof.
