C&S type 1 Stockcars

Al Pomeroy
I am wondering how many of these type 1 stock cars were double decked. My model below, which was awarded first place in revenue freight cars at the NNGC was the only double deck Type 1 the RGS received. as you can see from the photo the upper deck was not as tall as the lower deck. this is backed up by the Mallory Hope Ferrell Photo on Page 394 of RGS story, which this photo replicates.

RGS 7251

Was this a one off attempt to double deck these cars?
I chose this car as i needed more double deck cars on my railroad.

I believe that Harry Brunk had noted all the C&S cars were convertible. Not sure how easy that would have been to do however would have certainly required some labor and where were the platforms stored???

Al, beautiful model of a double decked 1900 stock car!

On another thread, a few years back (2020), Jim McKee posted this info:

The double decked cars are as follows per Derrell Poole's list.

Wood Frame Cars (17):
7015, 7017, 7019, 7021, 7022, 7024, 7025, 7032, 7034, 7038, 7039, 7042, 7045, 7048, 7049, 7050, 7060.

Wood Frame Cars with Bettendorf trucks (8):
7046, 7058, 7066, 7068, 7070, 7075, 7076, 7083.

Steel Frame Cars (28):
7087, 7088, 7090, 7091, 7092, 7093, 7094, 7096, 7097, 7098, 7099, 7100, 7101, 7102, 7103, 7104, 7106, 7108, 7110, 7111, 7112, 7113, 7115, 7116, 7118, 7121, 7133, 7134.

I don't have any info on when the second deck was added to these cars.  However, if the work was done on these cars at the same time, an AFE may have been created to cover the cost, and maybe the documentation would be at the CRRM.

Evidently quite a few stock cars were double decked for sheep movements on the C&S narrow gauge.

In Ferrell's RGS book, a list of the Miller Cars operated on the RGS indicates only 6 of the AC&F 1900 stock cars made it to the RGS. Of the 6 stock cars of this type, only one was a double-deck car, RGS 7251, former C&S 7015:
