DSP&P was long gone as an entity by the time Bettendorf frames were made. C&S was an early acquirer of "modern" steel framed cars.

was the C&C around in 1874, that's the build date of the oldest surviving 4-Wheel Carriage here?

Chris: Nope, and not saying it was there before NZR but that it was there before the C&S testing metal frames. Steel, no, but metal, yes.
