• Blizzard in the West, Trains to Leadville—No trains have been moved between Como and Leadville on the line of the South Park
since Saturday night, while trains between Como and Denver have been running regularly. The trains have been “tied up” on account of the terrible storm which has been raging on divide for two days and nights. Snow has not fallen in such a large quantity
but the wind has been blowing a veritable hurricane filling the cuts. The rotary snow plow has been kept busy between Como and Leadville for the past week and late last night succeeded in getting into this city clearing the road. All trains on the South
Park will be resumed today.
This has really been the first serious interference by snow that the South Park has had this winter. The Blue River
branch of the Rio Grande is tied up temporarily until a rotary snow plow can clear the track of snow between Dillon and Leadville. The plow will start out today to perform that duty. The regular train on the Rio Grande which leaves Leadville in the
morning for Dillion got out fourteen miles yesterday and stalled and had to return.
The second attempt to get through was made in the afternoon but failed and the train returned to Leadville last evening.
Early this morning the rotary will be sent out and the cuts in which the snow is piled from four to ten feet high will be cleared. The ordinary snow plow and flanger only suffice to throw the snow up a few feet in the cuts to fall back again. This is the first
time this winter that traffic has been seriously interfered with on the Blue River branch of the Rio Grande. The road will probably be opened today once the rotary plow is set to work on the line between Leadville and Dillon.
