West Portal by drone

Kurt Maechner
When my family visited the Alpine Tunnel this summer, I rented a drone hoping to get great aerial footage of the west and east portals.  I ran out of time on the west side and, due to my inexperience with drones, was too afraid to fly too high on the east.

Lo and behold, I found someone who did what I wanted to do at west portal.  He flies his drone super high!  It's so high that at one point you can even see the eastern approach.  It is stunning footage.  I don't know who David Moore is.  This video simply came up in a Facebook search for the Alpine Tunnel.  I wish his video was on Youtube, but I could only find on Facebook.  Here is a post with some screenshots of his video and a link to his video.

Great find of the drone photos. I had planned a trip up to the West side of the tunnel the year the damage occurred.
It would be a great shame if this was the only way in the future you could get to see the tunnel complex. (By Drone photos )
I am just not up to a hike from the Palisades to the Portal and back. ( Bad Ankle. )
Would hope at some point in time the road would be stabilized and the drive to the West side could be made again.

What a neat video, Kurt. Thank you for posting.

Easy for me to ask--not having a drone, nor the skillset to fly one--my wish is for a video not only moving more continuously down the track centerline, but maybe a 100' off the centerline from below Woodstock/ Sherrod up to the West Portal. From a modeler's perspective, it would give us a better sense of the landscape.
