Thanks Darel. The biggest benefit of that "other railroad" is the two operating remnants that make experiencing narrow gauge steam railroading a great deal easier. Other than the Loop, you need a healthy imagination to experience the C&S.
That said, I've hiked and driven both approaches to Alpine Tunnel and the "other railroads" pale in comparison. That stretch of ROW between St Elmo and Pitkin is mind-blowing. The audaciousness that it took to build a railroad there is admirable and that's where my fascination with the South Park starts. It was a heckuva ballsy railroad.
