Weird Alpine

Kurt Maechner
I found quite a sensational story of a passenger train stranded on the east side of Alpine Tunnel in 1901 covered by several newspapers at the time.  I put together the details in an article (that was in The Bogies and the Loop a number of years ago).  I think you'll enjoy this story of starving passengers, potential boiler explosions, and a lost rescue train, all followed by a twist ending.

Enjoy!

FYI, Colorado Railroad Museum has a nice video on Alpine.

CRRM's You Tube videos are expanding and has become popular with videos. There are some interesting nuggets here.

Enjoy!
