Spring has come to Colorado

Keith Hayes
We had a couple brief wet snow storms the last few weeks and the shrubs and trees are starting to bloom. This can only mean less time in the man cave as outdoor yard care calls.

Our house has been due for a paint job for a while. Last year I was focused on getting the layout ready for the Narrow Gauge Convention. I had no excuse this year, so got on hiring a painter. Our house is already grey with green and red trim. When I went to look for the colors, I could not find all of them. But...I did have the color chips for the early C&S gray and green paint scheme. http://c-sng-discussion-forum.41377.n7.nabble.com/C-amp-S-structure-colors-td4159i20.html

I pitched it to She-Who-Must-Be-Obeyed, and she agreed!

The final coat is starting to go up, and I confess it is quite handsome.

Now all you need is a 40,000 gallon water tank (with cast iron columns) in the back yard -- painted in the same paint scheme!

I made the pitch, Jim.

She-Who-Must-Be-Obeyed was not amused.

Would she go for a station order board on the front porch?

Please post pix of the final paint job . . .

Rainwater harvesting is legal in Colorado now. You could save a few more gallons that way with an external tank.\

At least she-who-must-be-obeyed let you paint it the colors you want. Lol.

I remember having one of those "must be obeyed" types in
my life.  It got out of hand and her raft was cut loose from the
ship in a storm, never to be heard from again !  There is respect,
and there is obedience.  I really hope you guys are joking.

I'm sure it's just affectionate funnin' around, SP. I used to do it with my ex all the time, ha!

Besides, Keith would only have to build a 1/8 scale 50,000 gallon tank, the "law-which-must-be-obeyed" here in beautiful Colorado limits us to 110 gallons. ;)

Get that dirt and bark away from the siding or you'll be spending
money you don't want to, to have someone like me replace the lower
course of siding (PITA and expensive) and maybe even framing (more
expensive) !

Translated: less money for model railroading.

I would start by raking back the bark away from the structure.

Thanks for the advice,  gentlemen. I normally encourage that sort of thinking, but I don't have much topography to work with and it has been that way for the 20 years we have lived here.

You can get away with things in Colorado you can not elsewhere as it is so dry, once asked about a Damp Proof Course and was told it is not needed.

I agree that best practice would be some digging and gravel maybe to absorb any rain.

Remember that bark is flammable.

Bark is the leading cause of Seramosis in children under the
age of 10 and tapirs.  The link has been debated within the
medical community for years.

Hello again all...after a 45 year career, either in or supporting the USN, I have finally retired! Time to get that model railroad of mine wired. I hope to be here a lot more often, too =D

Congratulations, Don!

That's some excellent news. Where do you call home now that the answer isn't the Navy? 45 years puts you pretty square in this group with other species long thought to be extinct and fossilized. We welcome and celebrate your new life as well as honor your career.

Wherever you are, it's great to know you will be carving out a piece of the Colorado High Country as many of us are.
