South Park rail

Tim Schreiner
I found this 3 ft section of rail approximately a mile west of Como nearly 30 years ago. It measures 3" high, and 3" at the base. Can someone tell me what weight rail this is?

Sounds like 30 pound but put it on a scale.

30lb.  (40lb should be more like 3-1/2" x 3-1/2".)

30 lb. and if the base equals the height, then it's most likely an ASCE section. The exact measurement was once most likely 3 /8"x 31/8" , but it's obviously corroded and worn down to 3". Nice find. Ned

I had always suspected that it was 30lb rail, but wasn't sure. I think about all the historic equipment that once traveled over this piece of rail.
