Slot Cars anyone?

Something for anyone wishing to add some slot car action to their Clear Creek layouts.
The track was located on mine tailings at the present day site of the Shelly Park ball fields. Note the rail used as fencing. It looks awfully large to be mine trackage. The toxic dust must have been real nice too.

This was only 15 years or so after the radium gas (“vapours”) fad.  Imagine paying (lots of) money to go to a spa and give yourself cancer….

Cheers,
Jeff.

  Like spending large to fill your walls and attic spaces with
vermiculite (asbestos)  ....  the worst kind for fine particulates
that = mesothelioma.

  Of course, smoking has always baffled me for staggering cost
and results of premature aging, stinking like a burnt oilfield, and
the potential of a very agonizing end run.  All good things and
well worth the price !

How many of you folks used watch those old 'stock cars' race at a dirt track on Sunday afternoon when you were kids?

Yep.  Seymour Raceway, Sevierville TN.

Isn't that off the "Dolly Parton Parkway" (ironically the flattest stretch of road way in all of Sevier county)?

Same highway (411), but it's called "Maryville Highway" where it passes the speedway.

I think a small stock car track with an adjacent junk yard would be a unique source of revenue.
I spent many Saturday night's at O'hare speedway in Chicago.
