I promise I am not getting distracted. Well maybe.

Years ago, I picked up some nice-looking log loads from Ragg's at a show. These are cast urethane, and I don't know if Joe is still making them.

Anyway, I put a trusty coat of Rusteoleum camoflauge on them, and they have been travelling on a flatter ever since.

Today I was working on the Smelter and had some log crane supports to paint. A few months back, I heard about Vallejo washes (we have a lot to learn from our friends in the military world) and picked some up. I got dark grey, dark brown and rust.

Well, the crane parts caused me to grab the logs and apply the washes,  and I have to say the results are quite good!

I finished the log ends with some craft paint. These are now ready to head to the sawmill.

Seriously,  get some of these washes!

Don't know if Raggs is making anything at this point.  He may give you permission to cast copies of his logs if you contact him and keep them for your own use, not resale.  It might be worth contacting him to check things out.
 
I have some resin logs that I got probably 15 - 20 years ago that were made by a Don Stewart IIRC.  They are fairly large and seemed to be for the West Side Lumber log cars in S scale perhaps.  He also made tarp covered loads for flatcars. I have several of these for S scale and they could be used for larger scale smaller loads perhaps. I don't know if they are still available but might show up on eBay or at a train show.

Joel Bragdon may make resin logs as part of his scenery materials line.  Scenery Express might be another possible place to locate some.
