What work is being done to repair the Palisades and other rock slide damage?

Alpine Tunnel-West Side

Robert McFarland
Even though the Palisades rock wall is damaged it is still possible to reach the tunnel from the west side.It is a relatively easy 3 mile walk from the barriers at Woodstock Loop to the west portal of the tunnel-roughly the same distance it takes to walk from Hancock to the east portal. When I walked up there a little over a week ago I was suprised to find that the register at the station was just about full with entries from this year. There is some talk that some work will be done this year. There is a spot that needs some stabilizing-particularly a  large rock near the top of the face of the wall barely hanging on.

New Palisades Damage

In reply to this post by Robert McFarland
I heard a bit in passing at the narrow gauge Convention in Denver last week that a second rock slide had hit the palisades or somewhere just below. So I decided to jump in the plane and go look. I know these are a bit shaky. Look! I was trying to fly the plane at the same time as taking steady photos at the same time trying to figure out how to turn around in the rising box canyon ahead.

First is the known damage to the wall itself. Someone has kindly put big orange barriers so we don't drive off the wall.
Someone should tell the modeler of this scene about those little bottle brush trees. There were vendors at the Denver convention who would sell you MUCH more realistic foliage.
Year-old damage to the wall

I think the new slide is just downgrade with a couple of SUV-sized rocks blocking the right of way. I may have missed something but I didn't notice any other blockage.
New blockage

And here is a bit longer shot to show the relationship.
both damage sections
