Thanks all, I will practice a bit until I master this. Chris's enlargements are always spectacular, but I guess it always depends on the quality of the original print. Many of the 1880s Jackson and Mellon prints have a wealth of detail hiding in the silver grains.
As to the two boxcars in the photos, I can't descern the numbers, but I'd guess the car on the right is a former 26 foot Litchfield car and the car on the left a former UP built 27 foot car. The car on the right has the rectangular "The Colorado Road" emblem on the door, evidently the car too short to place it above the side lettering. The car on the left is a bit taller, with room for the emblem at the left end of the car side.
