To play the slots and get free drinks?  There is no cocktail service on Mount McClellan.

Ha. Because there is a housing shortage in Gilpin County due to all the available lots being devoted to gambling so workers had to commute from Denver?

...Anyone care to hazard a guess why we would even consider Central City over against the stunning “view of one-sixth of Colorado” from the top of Mt. McClellan this fine Sunday, July 29, 1906?!?
I think I would have gone for the top of Mt. McLellan. It would have been a nice hike from Silver Plume in late July, but it's a long walk, so I'd probably stay the night at Waldorf and take the train down the next day. Of course, it would have been an easier round trip on Monday when the Argentine Central was running, or a year later when you could get as far as Sunrise Peak on the aerial tram.

...or you could enjoy a pleasant  (but breezy) walk along the ridge to the summit of Grays Peak. (I am really irritated that our Geological Survey has systematically removed punctuation from place names. )
