Chris, when you fish for these photos, what lure do you use?

Type in a subject-mainly a town or location(Idaho Spgs. or Clear Creek)or a railroad(C&S ry,DSP&P RR)or a photographer(WHJ,Otto Perry).It might give you several pages of photos, or only 1 or 2.Set the left column up to 150 or 175 so you can see what the photos are about and go down the column till you find one you want to examine.Some time you can find real gems-mislabled photographs(likeDSP&P stuff labled D&RG)

The DPL search engine is a fickle thing, not always returning the anticipated result.  When I have searched Fork's Creek in the past, it did not bring up this mis-labled picture of Elk Creek, actually it came up in a search of "Boulder".  I remember Harry Brunk writing that he was very happy to find the WA Gibson photos taken at Elk, I'd like to think Harry would really be chuffed with this one.

Chris,thats when you find the really GOOD stuff!!Once I typed in GUNNISON looking for a panoramic photo of  Gunnison that included the DSP&P/C&S roundhouse on the way I found a photo mislabeled BLACK CANYON that I could recognize was the much photographed truss bridge in Platte Canyon.When I blew it up there was a Mason Bogie standing on the bridge.There are several photos of the Royal Gorge hanging bridge that are mislabeled  CLEAR CREEK

I was wondering if this bit of "unique to the C&S" habit of cleaning out the front end at a waterstop on the way upgrade, similar photographs were shown in the Mineral Belt V-3 and alluded to in the model on Harry's UC&N would come to mind when I started this thread.http://c-sn3-discussion-forum.41377.n7.nabble.com/Quite-A-Pile-Of-Cinders-td800.html  Unfortunately it didn't run. {:(

So in the Elk Cr. Br. shot above, there seems to be a huge pile of cinders and likewise at Riverview Tank  http://c-sn3-discussion-forum.41377.n7.nabble.com/Quite-A-Pile-Of-Cinders-td800.html  yet in Kindig's colour pictures that you've graciously provided show only a small amount.

Quandary!  Are then the piles from a carload that has been shovelled out I wonder?  Elk Cr. and Riverview seem an awful long way from Denver to haul to dump so what other ideas does anyone have on this gritty matter.  {:))

p.s.  Note that the Section House Chimney has grown somewhat between the photos.

For the most part those cinder piles were spread along the Right-of-way and used for ballast. The D&RGW used this technique for many years. It was not good for the ties or drainage but it got rid of the cinders.

Highway construction camp. I'm guessing those are the tailings from the new tunnel on the right. Note the tanker truck next to the section house. Just waiting for that makeshift tank car to pull alongside.
