Yes Jeff, it is known,
A 25th May, 1895 H. H. Buckwalter picture taken during the inspection prior of the reopening of the Tunnel by the UPD&G.
The rather ornate Candlestick jammed in that timber is a great touch.

What is the "X" on the tie that "sort of centers" to the tracks? Note the "wedges" in the foreground. Tom Klinger

Tom,
the X is the shadow cast by the Miner's candle, usually the candlestick is horizontal when it is jammed in a Timber underground.

Hi Chris,
If it was 1895, the company that made the decision would have been the DL&G and not the UPD&G. I know, same difference, but to be correct....
