Re: Desperately Seeking Signals: The Saga Of The Train Order Board

John Droste
John, and others.
I am posting in this group at the request of a moderator who found my discussion interesting in another group.
I am responding with politeness to Chris`s request for me to respond to this particular subject listed above.
Chris demonstrated that many depots did not have TOB`s, Subject of this discussion.
My response was to show him again with clarity that the D&RG did have a station in the said location and that there is a TOB in the location where it would be relative to my own discussion.
Chris failed to acknowledge this. Instead he undertook to attack me in other ways.

Regarding the bay window matter. I am not saying that it is a bay window. I just looked at what should be horizontal lines that are not horizontal but skewing from each other and vertical stripes that go as high as the TOB and disappear behind it. It reminded me of the London Junction image. That is all that I am saying. I could not care less if people agree or disagree that it may be a bay window.

I do not care for contests of the ego, which is what this ongoing topic of discussion is about. Chris wins, I do not care for it. He wishes to play the man, not the ball. I find such intercourse utterly utterly boring.

I simply wish to show where my explorations have been taking me with the possibility that others may have some kind of information that either supports or negates it. Chris had a gallant attempt at negating my theory, but failed and failed to acknowledge same. Because he is ego driven. He also wins because I do not care for such dialogue.

If I do not respond any further on the above subject, it is because it is just plain boring.

John

Yeah, that Chris is a real pain in the ass.  He regularly inundates the forum
with thoroughly researched history and detailed photographs without provocation.

  How dare he ?

Sorry Sir, that all this bores you.  In my world, guys like you are known as drama
queens, just looking to stir the pot for the sake of creating drama.  The choice of tact,
words, general language. I suspect Aspergers here.

One positive outcome of this mess is that he has gotten everybody else posting a whole lot of GOOD stuff that probably wouldn't have been posted if he hadn't have stirred things up.

I was thinking the same, lots of photos I had not seen, and operational information that I did not even know about to ask.

Indeed, I’ve certainly learned a lot about signals, order boards, and even ladies hankies.  :)

Cheers,

I also must agree. Photos can reveal ever so much.
David, would you mind showing a photo of the bundle of timetables please? Just so we can all know that we have not mistakenly been led up the garden path.

One for the "road" Jim, so to speak...

...and for those who model Depots, the ARE sign   not often seen due to the limited time frame I think.

There was such a sign in Como, and there is one now.

The car is a custom bodied Model T speedster, built from a 1917-25
"black era" car.  Wheels are likely Chevrolet discs, but many wheel
makers sold them aftermarket.

Hi Paul,

> Do we have those signs in S, or use a HO one?

I posted some images of those over in the “Signage” thread.  Just scale it when you print it out.  (A little experimentation will be necessary.  Looking at Chris’ picture, I think I made mine a bit too small.)

Cheers,
Jeff.

Chris, Jim como, et al: the most important thing I learned here besides some really good information about the existence of the TOB's is the great variety of styles of buildings used by the DSP&P, DLG, and C&S. In these photos there is no set design standard for station or depots. I love that. Unlike the standard building of eastern railroads that still standing like cookie cutters.

I knew I had read "something, somewhere, about this" just took a few years to find the missive.

It had been squirrelled away in the Blog....   Thanks Roper!
