I decipher Robert's off-the-wall post this as ....

Looks like a birdhouse  since the photo dates to the time of the Scrapper I guess there ain't no Switchmen using that addition.

Thats the one,Chris. The photo that inspired me to post about it is one on eBay showing C&S 9 stopped at the Depot with a passenger train, probably the last eastbound run.You can just barely make it out above the engine.

There are quite a few photos of the bird house, who built it I do not know.

I found it interesting that a birdhouse that was built as a chimney cap had its own chimney. Back in 1981/82, I included the birdhouse and its chimney when I built an O scale model of this depot for Mike Trent's layout.

Here are a few photos of the birdhouse taken by Morris W. Abbott in 1947.

Robert really does have a gift of asking (often vague) questions, that always seem to lead to fascinating discussions, where I always learn something new.

I never knew the Como depot had a birdhouse on its chimney.

I wanted to replicate it as part of the restoration, maybe make a removable version for special occasions. It does not fit our period. At that time there was a double door and a track car keept in there.

I believe this is the photo on eBay that Robert is referring to:
