DSP&P Locomotives Later in Life

Daniel Frauenhoff
Located on the University of Michigan Library's Digital Collections are two photographs showing ex DSP&P locomotives #55 & 57 in service on the Manistee & Luther Railroad Company. Fortunately for us the archivists did their research as the captions indicate the numbers the DSP&P and C&S used, apparently copied from Poor's book.

According to michiganrailroads.com: "The Manistee & Luther railroad was built in 1886 and used as a logging road for the R. G. Peters Salt  Lumber Co. It was built between Eastlake (on Manistee Lake) to the vicinity of Luther. The road had a number of branches into the forest. These lines were removed by 1915."

Poor states that these locomotives were sold prior to 1902.

Former DSP&P 55 still sports C&S #34 in this c. 1901 view on the Manistee & Luther Railroad. Renumbered M&L #4 shortly after.

Former DSP&P #57 (C&S # 36) on the Manistee & Luther Railroad c. 1900. Later renumbered M&L #3.

Thanks for tracking this down!  I find it fascinating to see where some of the locomotives ended up.
