Chris' Gold Mine-Princeton University Digital Library DSP&P/CCRR Stuff

Robert McFarland
Most of the photographs have been covered in other sources but the real treat is that the quality of the photographs are better and the enlargement process works better than DPL and others. For instance DSP&P 1 w/mixed train near Morrison-photo quality better-you can see more detail on the combine and boxcars.Doubleheaded passenger train on Loop Bridge w/ extended smokebox Brooks check out what appears to be an extension of the coupler pocket- good closeup of RPO and coach.Photo of  Snowsheds at Atlantic(east portal) shows construction shack near curve leading to Alpine Tunnel.(pudl,princeton.edu)

Nice find, Robert. FYI that is pudl.princeton.edu. I see that a handful of the images are mislabled. The resolution is much finer and the zoom feature is very nice.

And this one is for Jeff:

The summit of Marshall Pass, though perhaps too early to be of help in his HOn3 version.

This is the photo that Chris posted on NGDF- I don't know if he's checked out the South Park stuff yet.

Yes Robert, a significant collection.....

This one struck my eye, not so much in the wonderful clarity but that the original grouping of the buildings at the Lebanon Tunnel(background), which as you know still exist in that scene today.

This closeup maybe have been better off in the Unseen Clear Creek Thread......

Wow, what a find!

Check out the Pacific Express Company sign on the Princeton depot.  And who would have known: a gallows turntable at Marshall Pass....

Cheers,
Jeff.

A floored turntable at that. . .

And one should recall that the Brooks 2-6-0, DSP&P 35, the "Dillon", will much later become Mike Trent's C&S 22.

And consider these two views of the Woodstock snow slide rescue train:

Does the lower "Technicolor" view prove that Tiffany Reefers were painted yellow?

Going through these photos is a great way to let the turkey tryptophan wear off.

Here are a couple of photos for Jimmy Blouch, Pat Sargent, Geoff Hamway and any other early D&RG fans lurking quietly here:

Two early 1880's views of Cimarron, the helper station at the west end of the Black Canon, both new to me . . .

If I were ever forced to model the D&RG, I think Cimarron is one of the most attractive and compact locations on the D&RG system.

I noticed in this photo collection a very good quality photo of a toll gate on a road against a cliff side. Is this a photo of the toll gate on St Elmo`s Pass?  Just wondering. I should have kept the link but did not think of doing that until later.
