Re: C&S #75....a detail.

Hey Chris,

At least I'm still talking about the C&S.

We haven't gotten off to B-25's yet....

... and I hope we never do

I know right... On the NGDF it's ok to talk about anything NNG; but God forbid someone should post a narrow gauge modeling subject....

What color were Tiffany refrigerator cars? It's so hard to tell from old B&W pictures.

Rick, the B-25 Mitchell was a formidable Ground Attack Weapon in the Pacific Theatre. It was an effective anti-ship weapon as well perfecting the technique of skip-bombing by dropping a bomb at a low altitude and literally skipping it into the side of a ship.

Now. I concede that technically you are right about the Pennsy. However as much as power might have been important to whom ever, EVERY railroad was in the service business; fact or fiction, public perception was as keen then as it has ever been. The Pennsy may have invented their slogan but they did it upon the onus of something. What was that something? That their fireboxes were not popular with other RRs. That the Q was owned by whom? I don't think so. They were the iconic American Railroad rivaled by other similar roads with HUGE public exposure such as the NYC and the B&O. THAT was the envy. That made them the Standard of the World.

So what we are really talking about here isn't so much fact as it is opinion - public opinion. Paying public opinion. Image. Pennsy Envy.

Nothing personal John. I'm talking generally to everyone - the readership opportunity. You are therefore absolved.

But I have to say that as I read thru what you wrote I anticipated you would make points A - C. When that never happened I found a little dab of "passion" to go with making those points. Especially since I more or less made those points only several months ago in a very laborious - for free - article. You understand....

Don't take any of this to heart, grasshoppers. Derrell still likes all of you.

Thanks Doug,

I'm wiping the tears away from laughing so hard.

Derrell,

Public Opinion back then was usually only approximately equal to what Will Rogers said ; "I only know what I read in the Newspapers", and that only if they're literate. It had little to do with reality and everything to do with Public Relations.

So back to the main subject, How about that 75, did it get the reputation as a Killer after the roll over on Boreas Pass? I know that the C&S and RGS crews said that they were top-heavy and looking at them in comparison with the standard C&S power, I can see where they got that reputation.

I will say what I say, where I say it, fully at my own risk, until such time y'all are no longer tolerant of me - your option. My option is to say nothing at all...

May I suggest you keep notes - the 29th is coming up fast.

One last point, Derrell,

Pennsy was more PR than fact. NYC had the better route, better equipment but worse PR. So, I'll stick with the Pennsy as the Sub-Standard Railroad of the world, a notch below the RGS, but a notch above the MoPac.

But I still Love you, Buubie

Well. Since you could potentially save someone's life, I guess I'll make an exception - but don't let this be a habit!

I read this entire thread and found it very infomative.
Keith, that photo of your 75 is outstanding as well as Mike's pics of his On3 locos. There's lots of detail I can incorporate into my own locos. They aren't brass, but I think they can be modified to fit the prototype at a distance. Those pics make me drool.

A video for your enjoyment.

This has been sometime in the works, and was delayed due to some software and hardware issues. Now that these are worked out, we may be able to make some more if folks like them.

(Ohh, and it features the Soundcar installation in the caboose.)
