Consider this thread a "Wish List" so that Shapeways artists like Linn Moedinger can gauge the potential market for C&S passenger cars.
Please list the car type, number(s), scale and quantity you would potentially purchase if these cars were designed and printed. Daryl, could this be a sticky thread, like the Time Line? Lynn has already printed the RPO 11 in HOn3 and Sn3 and business car 911 in HOn3 (could be probably scaled up to Sn3). There are even printed cars for D&RGW and EBT fans. As Ken Martin has drawn every C&S passenger car and passenger car Folio 24 exists, we could probably provide Linn with all the data he might need

I'll start:
1. I'd like as first priority one of the short 4-door baggage / express cars, either number 1 or 2. I would buy a print in both HOn3 and Sn3 scales. 2. I would like a printed model of C&S combine 30, one in each HOn3 and Sn3 scales. The most ubiquitous combine on the C&S?? It was used on the Clear Creek trains, the Fish trains in Platte Canyon and the Como-Alma mixed. 3. I would like a printed model of one of the RPO coaches 40-43, commonly used on Denver-Como passenger runs, until through Denver-Leadville RPO service re-established in the early 1930s. Again, both HOn3 and Sn3: 4. I would like a printed C&S 4, long baggage / express car. In Sn3 without the lower metal sheathing, in HOn3 with the metal lower sheeting (applied early 1920s). We cannot have too many C&S head end cars!! 5. Finally, I think it would be fun to have a couple of open excursion cars in both HOn3 and Sn3; it would be a BYOB kind of thing: 6. If Linn chose to do a full C&S coach, this tall window car would be a beauty and near impossible to scratch build, a natural for 3-D printing: So, list your choices as well. Hopefully a consensus / priority list of C&S passenger cars to print will emerge.

Duly noted. The current project on the drawing board is the D&RGW modernized baggage. I need plenty for increasing express business on the home pike. EBT miner's coach #24 is finished and should be up for sale shortly. Since I kitbashed C&S #1 baggage, that is a bit down on the priority list. I do plan to do some of the other coaches and combines.
Probably next up is the C&S baggage/mail #11 floor, now that I saw an underbody photo in a companion thread. I already have the floor done and in hand but suspected the brake arrangement to be incorrect, so it is not for sale. Hope to correct that as soon as possible. |
Linn, if it helps, here is a photo of the underframe of C&S RPO 13 (Overland, HOn3):
This car still exists and has been well documented in a QuickPic book. Overland documented the dimensions and underframe appliances from the existing car then residing in Kansas or Nebraska. The underframe differs from the wreck photo of RPO 11, but the wreck photo is from around 1902-1905. Instead of the large retaining brackets supporting the paired brake levers at each end on "modern" RPO 13, the "early" underframe of RPO 11 seems to have two large support brackets in the center of the car, supporting the two main brake levers. The paired levers near the trucks seems to have little to no support in terms of brackets, or they have been knocked off by the wreck. Since all four of the RPOs were rebuilt in 1916, with standard USPO 15' mail compartments, one would wonder if all the underframes and appliances/plumbing were redone at the same time. In other words, would RPOs 10-11-12 have the same underframe as 13, albeit with four truss rods, instead of two?? Perhaps Ken Martin could opine . . .

I would like to request a C&S 10-12 in a pre 1910 configuration. Not sure how much work but I would be happy to get 2-3 of those.

There are pictures on pages 100 and 101 of "Narrow Gauge to Central and Silver Plume" CRA 10. Same picture is on page 415 in Mineral Belt Vol 3. These are UPD&G 30 but they stayed the same with possible variations to the windows. CC 1325 became 30 then C&S 12 Ken Martin |

Great idea! But what about On3? Speaking for myself, certain detail parts would be great! Not the entire carbody, however. Maybe the roof/clerestory. Leave a little off the roof so I can laminate the roof and get a "non-printed" surface. Cheers Stan |
