Allen Saloon/Store at Como

Robert McFarland
Looking at photos of the Allen building in the Park County Archives photo section I notice that early photos show large glass windows on the north(?) and west(?) walls with the door on the corner. In later photos  a large area of the west wall has been bricked in.and the door moved to the middle of the  north wall. When were these changes made and why?

I wanted to point out the difference between  photos taken in the early 1900s and photos taken in the 40s and 50s.Was there a fire in Como sometime between 1938 and 1941?A photo dated 1941 shows the large brick patch on the side of the building that had formerly had a large picture window. Also 1938 photos that show the Stone Garage show it to be intact while the 1941 photo of the Allen shows the Stone Garage to be a ruin.

When the Como depot was moved, they straightened out all those curves
and bridge issues.  When they were done moving the buildings, they put the
curves and bridges back as before.  Haven't you read my most interesting blog ?

Why should I?It's all been repeated thousands of times before!! Of course I could take the next plane to Nikamaroro Island for my date with Amelia Earheart!!Rik Gillespee of T.I.G.H.A.R. told me she's waiting for me there. Then we'll go riding in her restored Lockheed Electra!!!

You can free yourself of it by helping John build his new model railroad.

Freeing myself from "the hate" is a primary focus of life.
Currently doing a lot of modeling in 12"/1' scale to make
"everything right" in the world.

About 3/4 of the way up that short rise beyond the truck,
the abandoned grade of the WWP line the Cheney crosses
the road.  It is a wistfully beautiful place to be with that old
beast.  I think the rails were pulled up the same summer as
the South Park line, and like the South Park line, no ballast
was used.  It looks very much like the DSP&P could have
once run 3' Bogies up and down the line.  Don't think I have
not tried to envision it as I passed there.

I doubt it, those photo's are very early, there was one opposite that lead down to the Dispatchers.

The muddy side would be the front.
