I looked through the archive of the Rocky Mountain Rail Report, the newsletter of the Rocky Mountain Railroad Club, and put a post together with some miscellaneous South Park Line/C&Sng news from the 1977 editions including:

Club Members drive the route to the east portal of Alpine Tunnel
Some club members are surprised at the ease of driving the former DSP&P grade to St. Elmo and slightly beyond in the winter.  

Platte Canon Bunion Buster
The Club's 1977 field trips was to "One of the closest, yet probably one of the most ignored or forgotten abandoned railroad grades near Denver."  They started in Pine and moved east.  A lengthy description of the plans and locations are included.
