  I am unaware of the Starks, or anyone else keeping the abandoned
line operational.  It was common practice back in the day, but I know
of no specifics.

  The wrench in that theory is that the photo of the snowsheds was taken
in 1884, so the installation goes back to the earliest days of the line.
