Great project. Tank cars can be a challenge to print if you want to get a smooth and perfect form. Regarding the ends I have added an extension to the part so I can put them in a drill chuck or lathe. You'll be able to sand a smooth surface that way.
Finally I have found that there are different level of details that you can export a stl file in. Only larger files will give you a really round surface.
