Hi Jim,
I ran across your post this evening. As luck would have it, last week I was hiking a portion of that grade on Fremont Pass. I'm pretty sure your rotary train picture was taken at Chalk Creek. Here's how the site looked last week:
Unfortunately I only had a cell phone with me, so sorry for the quality. The grade is on the left side at the base of the pine trees, just a bit higher than the top of the waterfall. You can see the remains of the trestle just downstream of the base of the falls.
