Still looking for a pre-wreck 346 photo.

As to the pilot deck, if looks like a notch was cut out of the sheet metal pilot deck, like on the 1930's Overland C&S pilot decks with a small retaining strap holding the downspout in place.




The 346 likely looked like this, with the addition of the Ridgeway stack:
