I was poking through ebay photo offerings while I ate lunch today and came across this nice one of engine 67.

I almost didn't notice the boiler tube pilot mounted on the wooden pilot beam.   I think I remember that tube pilots didn't replace wooden ones on the C&S until much later- early '20's?  But here we are with link and pin coupler, McConnell stack, original tender: early C&S days.  Is this pilot anomalous, or am I remembering the timeline wrong?  The fellow sitting on the beam seems to be thinking deeply about this.
