From the October 21, 1880,
edition of the Fairplay Flume:
• The breaking of the ground
at Garo station for the Fairplay
branch of the D. S. P.
& P. railroad, will be hailed
with genuine rejoicing by
the citizens of Fairplay. After
being fed for many months
upon promised, false and idle
rumors, our people had been
led to believe that they were
to be forever debarred from
enjoying that much prized
blessing of civilization—a
railroad.
After considerable canvassing
and figuring on the part
of the South Park company,
it was decided some days ago
to leave it with a committee
of three, composed of Messrs.
Evans, Smith and Eicholts, to
say whether Fairplay should
have a railroad or not, and
that committee immediately
arose and said the Fairplay
and Garo branch should be
built. Surveys were immediately
ordered and the work of
construction is already under
way and is ordered to be completed
on or before the 15th of
December next.
