You Know Your From Georgetown CO When...

Jeff Ramsey
You Know You Are From Georgetown CO When...  is a group on Facebook which recently have been posting many unpublished C&S images of the Clear Creek district. Some of these images have been Colorized with spine chilling realism, namely of the Georgetown depot. Worth a look for those who FB.

I'll second that. Someone on the list complained the colorized images weren't "original" for their taste but I find them to be so well done, no flash no glaring issues, unlike work done by others. Worth a look.

Thanks for the heads up Jeff.

I think this one is pretty cool:

A passenger train has just passed a short freight somewhere is Clear Creek Canon, likely in the 19teens or very early 1920s, judging for the block monogram lettering on the caboose. Consensus is that the location was at Elk Creek. True??

Elk Creek seems strongly plausible--it was one of the few absolutely straight passing sidings in the canyon at that time (in early photos there is a distinct curve seen to it) and the ROW height above the water and topography look about right.

It looks like the track in the distance curves to the left, which it did as it went west from the siding before curving back to the right and disappearing, though the foreshortened perspective may be augmenting the effect visually compared to what is seen on the ICC map. Elk's passing track was on the inside, against the rock slope, which seems to be the case here. There was a bridge near the west end of the siding that looks to be discernible at the feet of the people standing next to the train.

This post was updated on .
It is Elk Creek.
The original siding there was located nearest the Clear Cr, however this was rebuilt following the flood that wiped out the original wooden truss bridge at that location.  The new Siding was also lengthened(alongside the relocated Main track) to cross Br. No. 21 as paired single span beam bridges(originally one single span, numbered 622(1885 numbers).

Looking between the tracks the Bridge Marker for #21 is clearly visible, as is the Brakeman standing at the Switchstand.

Didn't we do this once before..... http://c-sng-discussion-forum.254.s1.nabble.com/Yet-Another-DPL-Gem-Unseen-Clear-Creek-tp2400p10099.html

And while I'm at it here....

The picture entitled "... riding Horse at Georgetown" was taken at Fall River, with the Sectionhouse and wooden cribbing of an unknown Mine (USGS 1904,1917) visible in the rear.

Good catch in the 2nd Picture Doug posted.

The Switchstand is visible for the rarely seen 209' long O'Connel's spur at M.P.51.75.  This spur doesn't show in the Youtube Video of the Loop Trip but was on the 1918 Valuation Map and in the C&S E.T.T. №1of June 5, 1922.
