After a short ( the museum closed a 1/2 hour after I arrived) visit this summer to Harry's layout, I feel compelled to comment on it.
This was my third (or fourth?) visit, and I even got to run it once a couple of years ago. The progress made on the various additions and improvements this year was remarkable, and like his articles in NG&SLG and two books, was inspirational. Unfortunately this year there wasn't a volunteer operator present, so I took a "self guided" tour. The recent additions (turntable at Blackhawk, standard gauge interchange at Golden, etc.) are very well done and fit in perfectly, and the glass cases displaying Harry's locos and cars are really neat. It looks as though the system is run with good-running Blackstone D&RGW locos, a few with C&S stacks added, per prototype, others not. The details are phenomenal, every where you look there is something going on. Wish I could have spent more time there.
Anyway, kudos to the guys and gals who are doing the work there, the layout is well worth a visit. I was by myself, but I think the entire family would love it, including a visit to the UP museum downstairs. Don't miss it!
