I'm just reading "Goin' Railroading" by Sam Speas and found this video (
link) showing the last steam operations on C&S rails circa 1955-1960 and adding some colorful shots to the book.
Ok, it's SG, but the star of the last 10 minutes (and a connection to C&Sng story) is rotary #99201, who is pushed up the Climax branch by #641.
You can easily get an idea of what it means to operate a steam train under these weather conditions.
Film starts at the C&S roundhouse at Denver.
Replace the SG steamer on turntable with a lovely C&S #58 or another favorite engine which was still there just 20 years before...
