  Jeff asked:  "BTW, anyone know where WGM (and WFG before them) got their silica from?  (It wasn't, perhaps, Silica, was it?)"

==========================================================

  I have exactly zero documentation for this, but we do know that glasshouses ran on notoriously small margins and thusly came and went at an amazing rate, so we might, by extension, assume that any possible price-cutting measure a glasshouse might be exploited would be.  And we might also assume that the shipping of glassmaking materials from just down the line would be cheaper than from that quarry across the state.  Does anyone have knowledge of where the C&S shipments of silica, feldspar, and fluorspar (all materials known to be shipped out of the Platte Canyon line that were used in glassmaking) were shipped to ?

  So, to answer your question, it is likely (from a business perspective) to think they used materials mined nearby.  Can we prove it ?

C&S track from Alameda to Bayaud.I know of such photos in the Denver Public Library Western History Digital Collection (search word 'Lipan Construction'). I will attempt to have them up for you after I find them. From what I remember they show the track looking north from Alameda Ave to West Bayaud Ave. They show the Western Chemical Manufacturing Co in the background. The photos show only the track and the surrounding neighborhood which blocks out the view of the glass factory.
