Lots of progress today.
Extra 9 is stopped at the tank westbound and has encountered a delay. The conductor is consulting the time till dinner.

Well before it's too late and since Keith hasn't mentioned it yet, I would be remiss in not posting this for him. Some detail for examination.

Stan, the 1:48 part is now on Shapeways.

Chris, that detail was not on Harry Brunk's drawing.

Keith,
I kinda figured that, since there are weeds around the base of the I.S. Tank column bases and therefore if not noticed at the base of the Elk Creek and 3 Mile Tanks Harry can be forgiven for not including such. The I.S. and 3 Mile tanks both share the same bracing, for some reason Elk Cr. was different. Even though I've posted this picture before(full), it's only the one that actually shows the base in any of the 3 Mile Tank photos. I'd spotted this a while ago, couldn't let you miss out on including it now could I? Because this DPL picture of Elk Creek was mislabled originally I would be thinking Harry never saw it, but I haven't cross checked with the Gazette articles yet.. http://digital.denverlibrary.org/cdm/fullbrowser/collection/p15330coll22/id/74900/rv/singleitem/rec/47 Idaho Springs Tank. These "turned" posts are actually cast iron, I presume, and not wood ???
Seems like an excessive amount of weight for such few and skinny wood posts. Even cast iron seems sketchy. Disirregardlessly, the understructure seems awful light in sway bracing. Mr. Google says one gallon of water weighs something like 8.35lbs., or 3.75kg. At 40-some thousand gallons, that pencils out to something like 167 tons, or 151.5 metric tonnes. I think those were actually 47K gallon tanks, right ? Although we can't expect that they'd be brimming over full all of the time. How DID the RR meter water into the tanks to not overflow them ? Or did they ???

Mac Poor state 50,000 gal Tank at Three Mile, no data for Elk Cr. or I.S. West End Tank, (Original tank at 22nd Ave was listed as 14,534 gals) the "other" Iron Column supported Tank was at Silver Plume and was 37,994 gal.
Anyone seen a close-up of the Plume tank?

After a lot of picky work, I found the issues with the Estabrook parts and have posted them to my Shapeways shop in both 1:64 and 1:48. Look for Poverty Flats Model Company.
I also posted the Fort Logan parts in 1:48. Except I am still having issues with the 4-panel doors. John Shapekahm asked for the parts initially and now that I have spent some time with them, this is a dear little depot. It was a prototype design with variants at Fort Logan, Some Rock and Estabrook among others. Enjoy!

Espee, I think there was/Is a float valve in the tank to limit the water from overflowing.
Since I made some progress on the 3d parts, I took a break and ballasted track (I hate doing this as the trains were finally running reliably, but the look improves dramatically), and I painted the band connectors. At first they looked large, but overall, I am happy with them. Some shading will help. Those of you who buy this part may benefit from a gentle sanding over a radiused surface to get the parts to nestle dow on the band just a bit. Next up, the gallows. I think I will hide the column bases in the weeds, but I may fix the 3d parts and add the detail at the base. Just for Chris.

Add the base to just one column, and hide the rest in the weeds. Everyone will then assume they all have bases….

Hey, Keith
So far so good....is there any chance you can get the rivet detail on these guys? In On3, these would definitely show up. My vision is not what it used to be, but I would sure miss those rivets! I would probably feel compelled to install them one-at-a-time!!! I am already working on a boiler and cab that both need "hand-laid" rivets.... Looking good so far! Thanks for considering the O scale narrow gaugers! Cheers, Stan |

A fine idea, Jeff.
The gallows under construction. It has been a challenge to figure out the particulars from one side view. Jim Towbridge has a model of the larger tank with the knee braces.
