The 'Other' Leadville Freight House

Keith Hayes
All:

Soon, it will be time for me to start modelling the 'Other' freight house:

Jim provided this nice image in another thread. This structure is listed as a 'barn' on the folio map, and is located between East Eleventh and East Twelfth Streets, just south (track west) of the scale.

Does anyone have more information on this building? Looks like it had board and batten siding, and a steeper roof than the Freight Depot. Is that a hoist beam sticking out the end of the south gable?

Thanks for whatever help the group may provide.

Hi Keith,

I'd agree with board-and-batten.  While I've seen buildings with clapboard or shingles on the roof gable and other siding elsewhere, I've never seen board-and-batten used above another siding so it's probably all board-and-batten.

I'd also agree with the hoist beam, particularly if it was known as "the barn".

There was a big shed in Jefferson built by a co-op of farmers for storing hay to be shipped.  You can certainly imagine it also being stored at the receiving end....

Cheers,
Jeff.
