The Life Span of a Water Tank

Robert McFarland
Chris' comment on the stone based tank in the 1883 Como photograph-and mention of the one at Gunnison makes you  think about how long a water tank would last. Both of these tanks were later replaced with tanks with wooden platforms and larger capacity. Some tanks were moved to a different location-most notably Woodstock/Tunnel Gulch.Dome rock had at least three different tanks .An 1880s one with a wood sheathed base, the TOC one that shows up in the picnic train pictures, and the TALL one that shows up in 1920s pictures.Ten there's the water columns, and don't forget the twin tanks at Garos. How did they get there-how long did they last-why were they replaced?
