While reading Dan Edwards’ great Documentary History of the South Park Line Volume 8, I came across a 1907 Denver Post article with a pretty funny story involving a C&S train derailed by beer. With St. Patrick’s Day approaching, I thought it would be entertaining to retell the tale.
But then one other idea popped into my head. Our family loves to learn the history behind holidays and the true story behind St. Patrick has always been a family favorite.
In the end, I wrote an essay combining both stories: a beer-related train accident, and a story that inspired a holiday that, for some odd reason, is oddly tied to beer.
