Soldiering on...............Stationary Boilers

Robert McFarland
There is a line in the buildings section of the Trout Creek B&B files indicating that there was a"NG loco boiler"at Platte River-supposedly to power the well pump.In 1955 railfan Herb O'Hanlon discovered an abandoned Mason Bogie boiler at Weskan,Ks which he learned had been used to power the pump on the local tank.He contacted Art Wallace and Mac Poor and they were able to document it but not to save it(Bogies & Loop Volume 12 Issue 2).There is a DSP&P loco roster in the files section of the DSP-P Yahoo Group that includes notes at the end mentioning stationary boilers and the disposition of "scrapped" locos that might suggest that although the locos were gone, their boilers might still be working. There is a photo of the Como Roundhouse that shows a discarded boiler near the stone section that appears to be from a Mason.(DSP&P Pictorial p279)Could it be that there were other survivors?
