OK who's up for placing this location? Photo from the DPL, linked after the correct guess.

Oi, One post per person eh, no edits :) Ya still wrong, Doug.
Once the location is guessed by say township given the smalltime nature of the C&S then there needs to be a narrowing down to name of the building or milepost adjacent to or to a landmark feature very closeby.

Chris you must be the master of "where is it" --appreciate you challenge, but I'm a bit out of water on some of the C&S locations. This will be interesting to see where it is! Just for fun I do think that is the Arkansas River though.

All my reference materials are in storage but it is further up the creek than the original stone mill/sampling works in the area where the Gilpin Tram came down to the grade and the C&S ended. I know it wasn't on the Gilpin just trying to locate geographically. Hard to do with no photos or maps at hand. Bill Uffelman On Saturday, January 24, 2015 4:52 PM, Chris Walker [via C&Sn3 Discussion Forum] <[hidden email]> wrote:

Golden?
The water body looks too large to be Black Hawk. My back up is Idaho Springs.

I am out of ideas -- I can only see the location in my mind's eye as I have no reference materials here. I believe it shows in the background of a photo looking up the creek but at 67.5 my mind is getting foggier! I can't tell... is that a settling pond in the background or is this near a confluence? Or is this in the bend of the waterway?

Derrell, yes this is a bend in the waterway and yes there is a confluence, but no on a settling pond.

And another clue is to a recent C&Sn3 Blog post being taken exactly opposite this Mill.

![]() Well. Your photos do not fit Blackhawk to me. Doug's "recent" post (last Oct.) of the box cars at Idaho Srings pointed to Mr. Walker poking around a lot in Idaho Springs at DPL. I believe this cropping came from MCC-1256 (iirc). This is on Clear Creek near the confluence of Chicago Creek. Hidden behind the crest of the hill before us is the pond and dam which I think shows up in your second photo upper right. I also noted the ridge board on the roof of one of the buildings in this photo on a like building in yours. Several things were stumpers; RR spurs coming thru the buildings too much water in the photo for Black Hawk are two examples. I think this is the Idaho Springs Concentrate and Sample works. |
