Does anyone have some good shots of C&S 71 under steam in the late 1980s? I have a few but was hoping for some more options for a project I'm working on.
Thanks!
Kurt
I remember riding in combine 20 when #71 was under steam, but I don't seem to have taken any photos that day. I have some B&W photos in Central City the day of "The Great Train Robbery" on October 17 1986 when CHS loaded it up to take to Silver Plume and was blockaded by local protestors, some color shots of it sitting on a temporary track in Black Hawk in December 1986 or January 1987, and a few shots of it under steam inside the plastic tent that they were using as a workspace when preparing it for service from May 1987. Let me know if any of these would be of use.
Hi Todd, thanks so much. You actually shared those with me a while back and I'm hoping to use several of them for my book on C&S restorations. The publisher and I are done with the text and now are working on photos. I'm thinking of using a color shot of C&S 71 actively steaming for a cover shot.
I have a photo from you of five shots of the Great Train Robbery (from photo negatives it seems). There is a shot of a Suburban in front of the track used to cart 71 off. Is that someone trying to stop the removal of the tender? Do you have any other shots of the towns people standing in the way of the tender's removal?
I'm not sure if that Suburban was there to block tender removal. Most of the blocking seemed to be centered around the semi with lowboy trailer hauling the locomotive - while it was on the street, then blocking the exits from the parking lot after it was driven there. Those five shots are all I took. That was back in the day where every photo had a cost and a roll of film only held 36 shots, so I didn't take as many photos as I do now. That roll of film included some photos of the stone depot in Boulder for a drawing I was working on, and some of a friend's model railroad layout in addition to the shots in Central City.
