Original colour of Jefferson Schoolhouse?

Jeff Young
It appears to have originally been a light colour with white trim:

Then sometime post-1918, but before the front vestibule was added it was painted a light colour with dark trim:

(All images Park County Archives.)

Presumably this second colour scheme is the white/dark green it wears today.  Anyone have any idea what the earlier one was?

Thanks,
Jeff.

Oh, a fun guessing game Jeff!
Yellow/Gold with White trim would make for an attractive structure.

I have always assumed paint in Como was borrowed from Railroad stocks, not sure the same could be said for Jefferson.

They probably used a similar common palette.

I’m leaning towards a beige or DRGW depot buff (a toned-down yellow/gold).

Even though I intellectually know the sepia tint in the image is an artefact of processing, it still sticks in my mind and something without any yellow tint just won’t feel right.

I think that'd be safe. Yellow schoolhouses were fairly common. I'd vote for green shingles too.

Hi Jeff,

in the Kokomo thread you mentioned using Master Creations (BTS) shingles on your Jefferson schoolhouse.  Could you post some photos?  I need to get shingles for my Kokomo depot and would like to see what those look like- not to mention expecting the usual WOW factor in seeing another of your structures!!

thanks,
John

Ah, yes, another one that got forgotten when my SD card got lost.

I’ll see if I can’t get some taken tomorrow….

First off, my present from Storm Ali:

The schoolhouse never got completely finished.  Still waiting on some more interior details, doorknobs, etc.  But it's done enough for some pictures:

Close-up of the shingles (which I'll also be using on the Kokomo depot):

And an as-yet-unweathered #9 just for Jim (ignore the dead horse in the background):

Pale yellow was my guess from photo of original. Looks great!

Jeff,
I hope that was the only storm damage! Top marks for the schoolhouse. Paul R.

Jeff,

the schoolhouse is beautiful, just perfect (the whole scene is, too)!  These BTS shingles are definitely what I'll use for Kokomo too, they look really nice.

Thanks so much for posting, it's always an inspiration to see more of your work.

Cheers,
John

your tree loss is a shame. I can't quite tell what species it is- can you get some nice lumber out of it, or at least good firewood?

I did ask if they had undertaken any paint sampling and it was a bit confusing, anyway sounds like they did not do any microscopic analysis but for what it is worth believe that this is the original colour scheme.
