Michigan Spur 1916

Doug Heitkamp
Group,

I picked up these pictures the past weekend at a local train show. They are both noted as "Michigan Spur 1916 (Derailment)" The seller felt they were from the Andy Anderson collection of pictures. My guess is that these are copies from originals, but they are mounted on vintage style cardstock. The prints measure 2 1/2" x 4 1/4".

Perhaps these have been published and I just missed it? Any comments?

Doug,

the bottom photo is in Klinger's C&S High Line Memories and a similar but truncated view of the #72 as well: All are attributed to the A.A. Anderson collection.

Chris,

Thanks! I had a feeling they might be in that book but wasn't able to check as it is packed away. Anyway, they are a couple of interesting pictures. I just wish the top picture was a bit sharper.

Enjoy!

Morning Doug,

I've seen the bottom photo published in the Klingers' C&S Highline Memories . . . page 66. Yes, it is attributed to A.A. Anderson. The photos are of track repair after a derailment where "wind blew cars over" about 1915-116.

The companion photos in the Klingers" book are:

Your top photo is really neat, as it shows one of the Peninsular coal cars in MOW service, evidently carrying wheel sets or freight car trucks. The first outfit car is 051, not sure about the rear one.

Great acquisition!

There is another shot of 051 in the NG Pictorial Vol 8.
